Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to express their own probabilities. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook’s line is inaccurate, the prediction market odds will adjust accordingly. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before a lot of information about team lineups and weather conditions becomes available. These differences can present opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief about the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price fluctuates, reflecting the collective prediction. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand among traders on Polymarket, and it’s important to note that external factors, like news or expert opinions, influence trader behavior and therefore the price.
