Prediction markets and traditional sportsbooks price events differently because they use distinct mechanisms. Sportsbooks set odds based on their risk models and aim to balance action on both sides; prediction markets rely on continuous trader participation and real-money stakes, which often surface information faster and reflect crowd conviction more directly. For exact-score markets, prediction traders may price certain scorelines more aggressively than sportsbooks do, especially as new information emerges closer to match time. Comparing the two can reveal where consensus diverges and highlight potential value.
Polymarket and Kalshi may show different odds on this market for several reasons. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform attracts distinct trader demographics, liquidity pools, and fee structures, which influence how quickly prices adjust to news. Additionally, the two venues may frame the exact-score outcome slightly differently—one might group results into broader categories while the other lists individual scorelines—leading to apparent pricing gaps. Arbitrage traders often exploit these differences, but temporary divergence is normal and reflects the decentralized nature of prediction markets.
