Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds to ensure profitability, while this market allows traders to directly assess probabilities. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, varying participant expertise, and the influence of market sentiment. If sportsbook odds significantly diverge from those seen here, it may indicate that the market perceives information differently or anticipates factors not fully accounted for by sportsbooks. Analyzing these differences can be valuable for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds represent the most up-to-date assessment of the event's potential results, based on the participants' willingness to take either side of the bet.
