Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in how each assesses the probabilities. If you observe a significant difference between the odds here and those offered by sportsbooks, it could indicate an opportunity for value betting, depending on your own analysis.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment. The current trading volume and price fluctuations provide insights into the collective forecast of the traders.
