Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish initial lines based on their own analysis, aiming to balance action on both sides. This market, however, allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome, and the odds adjust based on the collective wagers. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is mispricing the event, the prediction market odds may diverge. It's common to see prediction markets outperform traditional bookmakers, especially when information isn’t widely available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Pesternikov vs. Shcherbak match. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, indicating a higher perceived probability. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence.
