This prediction group concerns the winner of the Best Documentary Feature Film award at the 99th Academy Awards in 2027. Traders are predicting which film will receive the award, with individual markets created for specific potential nominees.
The Academy Awards are presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to honor outstanding artistic and technical achievements in film. For the 99th Academy Awards in 2027, nominations are scheduled to be announced on January 21, followed by the ceremony on March 14, 2027. This market will resolve according to the listed film that wins the 99th Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film. If a film is not officially nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film when the 2027 nominees are announced, the corresponding market will immediately resolve to "No". In case of a tie for the winner, this market will resolve in favor of the nominated film whose listed title comes first in alphabetical order. If, for any reason, no winner is declared by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Academy Awards and AMPAS, including data from their website (e.g., https://www.oscars.org/) and the live broadcast of the award ceremony; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
The event determines the winner of the Best Documentary Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards, scheduled for March 2027. Each market corresponds to a specific documentary film or a tie outcome. If the named film wins the award, that market resolves to Yes; all others resolve to No. A Tie market resolves to Yes only if the Academy declares a tie for the award. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences officially announces the winner during the televised ceremony. All markets are independent, and only one can resolve to Yes unless a tie occurs. The markets are descriptive references to the Oscars and do not imply endorsement or affiliation with the Academy or its associated entities.
Prediction market odds often offer a different perspective than traditional analyst forecasts. Analysts may rely on critical reception and industry buzz, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. This can lead to divergences, especially when there’s strong public sentiment that differs from expert opinion. The efficiency of this market means that odds can quickly adjust to new information, potentially providing a more accurate forecast than static analyst predictions. It’s a fascinating comparison of different forecasting methodologies for the Best Documentary Feature award.
Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi can differ due to several factors. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform has its own user base, trading limits, and fee structure, all of which can influence price discovery. Currently, Polymarket currently favors Will Movie B win Best Documentary Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards? at 72.5%, while Kalshi leans toward Will You Can See Everything win Best Documentary Feature Film at the Oscars? at 77.0%. Differences in liquidity and trading activity between the two platforms also contribute to these price discrepancies. Furthermore, differing interpretations of pre-Oscar awards and critical reception can lead traders on each platform to assess probabilities differently.
This market resolves around Dec 31, 2027, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. The winner of the Best Documentary Feature award, as announced by the Academy Awards, will determine the outcome of this market. The official results will be sourced from the Academy’s announcement, ensuring a transparent and verifiable resolution. Traders should monitor the awards ceremony closely as the official announcement will finalize the outcome of this market and trigger settlement.
Several key events could significantly impact this market. Major award announcements leading up to the Oscars, such as wins at the Critics Choice Awards or the BAFTA Awards, often serve as strong signals. Positive or negative critical reviews, particularly from influential publications, can also shift trader sentiment. Unexpected publicity or controversies surrounding a particular documentary could also move the market. Finally, any major developments in the subject matter of the documentaries themselves could influence predictions as we approach the Dec 31, 2027 resolution of this market.
