Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their own analysis, while this market’s odds are continuously adjusted by traders responding to new information and their own insights. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before a significant event or if there's strong public sentiment driving trading activity. These differences can present opportunities for arbitrage, where traders exploit price differences between venues to profit.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the share price will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on the collective intelligence of those trading.
