Prediction markets like those on Polymarket and Kalshi are often more efficient than traditional sportsbooks because they aggregate dispersed trader knowledge in real time, with no house edge built into the odds. Sportsbooks set fixed lines designed to balance action and lock in profit; prediction markets adjust continuously as new information arrives. For exact-score outcomes, prediction markets can reflect sharper probability estimates, especially as match day approaches and injury reports or team news circulate. However, liquidity varies—sportsbooks typically offer tighter spreads on major outcomes, while prediction markets may excel at niche scorelines.
