Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically establish initial lines to balance betting action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on traders directly expressing their beliefs about the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access, analytical approaches, or simply variations in risk appetite. Examining these differences can reveal where the crowd believes sportsbooks may be mispricing the probability of a particular result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the aggregated sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or other prediction markets.
