This set of markets tracks the point differential in the second half of a college football game, focusing specifically on how many points one team wins by over the other during that period. Each market corresponds to a different point threshold, allowing participants to speculate on the exact margin of victory in the second half.
The markets resolve based on the point difference in the second half (excluding overtime) of the Northern Illinois vs Iowa college football game scheduled for September 5, 2026. For markets where Iowa wins by a specified margin or more in the second half, the market resolves to Yes; otherwise, it resolves to No. Conversely, for markets where Northern Illinois wins by a specified margin or more in the second half, the market resolves to Yes if that condition is met. If the game is postponed but starts within 48 hours of the original time, the markets remain open and resolve based on the final result. If the game does not start within 48 hours, the markets resolve to a fair price. Only points scored in the second half count toward these markets.
Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, particularly closer to the event. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and to balance action, while this market is driven by individuals freely trading based on their own information and beliefs. However, initial sportsbook lines may differ significantly, and discrepancies can arise due to differing risk assessments or promotional strategies. It’s common to see this market converge with sportsbook odds as the event approaches and more information becomes available.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different point spreads for the second half. The price of each contract reflects the probability of that spread occurring, as determined by supply and demand. As more traders buy contracts for a particular spread, the price increases, indicating a higher perceived likelihood. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The platform facilitates this price discovery process, allowing traders to express their views and collectively forecast the outcome of the game. The current price represents the market’s best estimate of the true probability.
This market resolves around Sep 5, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the final point spread for the second half of the Northern Illinois vs Iowa game is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the official result reported by the governing body of college football. The contracts will then pay out based on whether the actual spread falls within the range represented by the purchased contracts. The platform will verify the outcome and distribute funds accordingly.
Several factors could influence the price of contracts in this market. Any significant news regarding injuries to key players on either the Northern Illinois or Iowa teams would likely cause movement. Changes in weather forecasts, particularly if they suggest conditions unfavorable to one team’s playing style, could also affect the market. Late-breaking news about team strategy or coaching decisions could also play a role. Even public sentiment, as reflected in social media or expert analysis, can influence trading activity and shift the price.
