Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Kalshi, often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the wisdom of the crowd and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while prediction markets allow users to directly express their beliefs, creating a more accurate forecast. This market, for example, reflects the aggregated knowledge of participants, potentially identifying mispricings that sportsbooks may overlook. However, factors like liquidity – currently at a volume of $3,480,968 – can also influence discrepancies between the two.
Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi can diverge due to several factors, including differing user bases, market structures, and liquidity. Polymarket currently favors Over/Under 0.5 Rounds at 94 percent, while Kalshi leans toward Jean Silva wins. These differences arise because each platform attracts traders with unique information and risk appetites. Additionally, the specific rules and fees on each platform can influence trading behavior and, consequently, the resulting probabilities. The relatively low volume of $4,406,006 may also exacerbate these discrepancies.
