Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market is driven by individuals making their own predictions and expressing them through trades. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Examining these differences can provide valuable insights into public sentiment and potential value opportunities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe Geneve-Servette will win, the higher the price of shares representing that outcome will climb, and vice versa for Ajoie. This dynamic pricing reflects the evolving consensus of the crowd.
