Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information sources and incentives. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their view. If a significant discrepancy exists, it could indicate that the crowd believes a sportsbook has mispriced the event, or that new information hasn’t yet been fully incorporated into sportsbook lines. It’s important to compare both to form your own informed opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous exchange where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people trade, the price adjusts to reflect the collective sentiment. Higher demand for shares in a particular outcome drives up its price, indicating increased confidence, while selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic pricing mechanism creates a real-time assessment of the event’s likelihood.
