Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven purely by traders’ willingness to buy or sell. If sportsbook odds significantly diverge from those found here, it could indicate a disagreement about the true probability of an outcome. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, and neither is guaranteed to be accurate. Analyzing the differences can offer valuable insights into market perceptions.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand; there are no external factors influencing the pricing on Polymarket. This dynamic pricing allows for a fluid and responsive market reflecting the latest information.
