This market tracks the combined runs scored by both the Yankees and Tampa Bay during the first 5 innings of their July 8, 2026 game. Bettors wager on whether the total will exceed various run thresholds.
Resolution is based on the combined total runs scored by New York Y and Tampa Bay during the first 5 innings of their professional baseball game originally scheduled for July 8, 2026 at 6:40 PM EDT. The market resolves to Yes if the combined total exceeds the specified threshold (0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, or 6.5 runs). Each threshold represents a separate market outcome. If the game is postponed or delayed, the market remains open and closes after the rescheduled game finishes within two days.
Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets like this one aggregate the beliefs of traders risking real capital on outcomes. Prediction markets can sometimes price events more efficiently when traders possess specialized knowledge or when the crowd collectively outperforms oddsmakers. However, sportsbook lines benefit from professional risk management and sharp action, so neither venue consistently outpredicts the other. Comparing both can reveal where consensus differs and highlight potential value.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders submit bids and asks for shares representing different run-total outcomes. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each outcome reflects the collective willingness of participants to buy or sell at that level, creating a real-time probability estimate. As new information emerges—such as injury reports, weather updates, or lineup changes—traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down. The spread between bid and ask widens or tightens based on liquidity and conviction, so tighter spreads typically signal stronger consensus.
This market resolves around Jul 9, 2026, once the first five innings of the Yankees-Rays game are complete and the final combined run total is verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined solely by the runs scored by both teams during innings one through five; any runs scored in innings six through nine do not factor into the settlement. Once the fifth inning concludes and the official score is confirmed, the market will settle based on which outcome bracket the actual total falls into.
Several catalysts can shift odds before first pitch and during the early innings. Lineup announcements, bullpen availability, and injury updates to key hitters or pitchers will influence expectations for run production. Weather conditions—wind direction, temperature, and humidity—affect ball carry and can favor either offense or defense. Recent offensive form, starting pitcher matchups, and head-to-head splits between these teams also drive trader positioning. Once the game begins, early at-bats, hits, and scoring will cause rapid repricing as the market incorporates actual game flow into its probability estimates.
