Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform attracts different trader demographics, liquidity pools, and fee structures, which can cause temporary price divergence. Polymarket and Kalshi may also have distinct user bases with varying information access or risk appetites. Arbitrage opportunities between the two platforms incentivize traders to exploit these gaps, though differences often persist due to withdrawal delays, platform-specific trading costs, and the time required for capital to move between venues.
Key catalysts include roster updates, injury announcements, recent team performance trends, and weather conditions on game day. Betting line movements at major sportsbooks often precede prediction market shifts, as do breaking news about player availability or coaching decisions. Trading volume spikes typically occur closer to game time as more casual bettors enter the market, and any viral social media sentiment or expert commentary can accelerate price movement in either direction.
