Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to openly buy and sell their predictions, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities as new information emerges. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or breaking news. Analyzing these differences can offer insight into public sentiment and potentially identify value in either market. Keep in mind that sportsbooks may also adjust their odds closer to game time based on betting patterns.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a specific exact score. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. Conversely, selling shares drives the price down. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share directly corresponds to the estimated probability of that exact score occurring, allowing traders to express their views and profit if their predictions prove correct. The market’s price is solely determined by supply and demand from traders on Polymarket.
