PredictionHero - Resolution Divergence Alerts (RDA)

Divergence Detected

Issue: Polymarket focuses on *which* team scores first, while Kalshi focuses on *how many* goals are scored, creating a fundamental difference in the markets' objectives.Hero tip: If you are interested in predicting the first team to score, focus on the Polymarket markets. The Kalshi markets are focused on the total number of goals scored and are not directly relevant to this question.

Critical divergence points:

  • Polymarket: Resolves to the first team to score within 90 minutes + stoppage time, using official statistics or a consensus of credible reporting. Offers markets for NEC, SBV Excelsior, and Neither.
  • Kalshi: Resolves based on whether over/under certain goal thresholds (0.5, 1.5, etc.) are met within 90 minutes + stoppage time. Does not directly address which team scores first.
Our PredictionHero Resolution Divergence Alerts (RDA) are there to help users identify potential differences across platforms. They do not replace or supersede the official rules and description of any prediction market. Users are solely responsible for reviewing and understanding the applicable rules and resolution criteria before placing any trade or bet. If you notice a potential inconsistency, discrepancy, or error in an alert, please report it to our team so we can review and improve the accuracy of our data.

Polymarket

In the upcoming match between NEC and SBV Excelsior, scheduled for August 22, 2026 at 2:00 PM ET: This market will resolve to "NEC" if NEC are the first to score within the first 90 minutes of regular play plus stoppage time. This market will resolve to "SBV Excelsior" if SBV Excelsior are the first to score within the first 90 minutes of regular play plus stoppage time. If neither team scores within the first 90 minutes of regular play plus stoppage time, this market will resolve "Neither". If the game is postponed, this market will remain open until the game has been completed. If the game is canceled entirely, with no make-up game, this market will resolve to "Neither". This market refers only to the outcome within the first 90 minutes of regular play plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalty shoot-outs are excluded. The primary resolution source for this market is the official statistics of the event as recognized by the governing body or event organizers. However, if the governing body or event organizers have not published final match statistics within 2 hours after the event's conclusion, a consensus of credible reporting may be used instead. All markets will settle based on the official final result as recognized by the governing body or event organizers. Revisions to officially declared final scores made after market resolution will not be accounted for in determining the outcome.

Kalshi

All markets resolve based on the total number of goals scored by both teams combined in the Nijmegen vs Excelsior professional Eredivisie soccer game scheduled for September 8, 2026, after 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Each market has a specific threshold: over 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, or 5.5 goals. If the actual total exceeds the threshold, the market resolves to Yes; otherwise, it resolves to No. Extra time and penalty kicks are excluded from goal counts. The markets are independent, meaning each threshold is evaluated separately regardless of others.

Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds, like those found for this market, often reflect a different set of information and incentives than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks primarily aim to balance their books and profit from margins, while prediction markets aggregate the beliefs of a diverse group of traders. This can lead to discrepancies, especially when significant public information isn't fully priced into sportsbook lines. While both attempt to forecast the same outcome, the mechanisms and participant motivations differ, potentially making prediction markets more accurate in certain scenarios. It’s worth comparing the implied probabilities to see where the market diverges from conventional wisdom.

Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi for the NEC vs. Excelsior first-to-score market can diverge due to several factors. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform attracts a different user base with varying risk appetites and information advantages, leading to differing opinions on the likelihood of each outcome. Trading volume also plays a role; if one platform has significantly higher volume, its prices may be more responsive to new information. Furthermore, the specific mechanisms for price discovery – how traders set the odds by buying and selling – can vary between Polymarket and Kalshi, contributing to price discrepancies.
