Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they serve different purposes and attract different participants. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets let traders directly stake capital on outcomes they believe will occur. This market reflects the aggregated conviction of thousands of independent traders rather than a bookmaker's risk management. Sportsbooks may lag behind breaking news or insider information, whereas prediction markets can adjust instantly as new signals emerge. Both sources offer valuable perspectives, but they typically converge as resolution approaches and uncertainty narrows.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares of each outcome—in this case, the likelihood that Robert Williams III joins a given team. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share reflects the real-time probability assigned by the market. When more traders believe Williams will sign with the Indiana Pacers, for example, shares tied to that outcome rise in value. Conversely, reduced confidence pushes prices down. This continuous price discovery mechanism means odds update instantly as new information surfaces, trades execute, and sentiment shifts throughout the offseason.
This market resolves around Oct 31, 2026, once Robert Williams III's free agency decision is finalized and publicly confirmed. The outcome will be verified against credible public reporting—official team announcements, league filings, and reputable sports news sources. Once Williams signs with a team or his destination is officially declared, the corresponding outcome resolves to yes and all other outcomes resolve to no. Early signings or trades may trigger resolution before the end date if the event becomes certain and verifiable.
Several catalysts can shift odds significantly. Injury updates or medical clearances for Williams will influence team interest and his market value. Trade rumors, coaching changes, or roster moves by contending teams alter their cap space and willingness to pursue him. Contract negotiations or reported interest from specific franchises can trigger sharp price moves. Player statements or agent commentary about preferred destinations carry weight. Competing free agent signings reshape the landscape by opening or closing roster spots. Media reports linking Williams to particular teams often spark immediate trading activity. Late-stage negotiations or surprise signings by rival teams can create sudden volatility as the market reprices expectations.
