Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they serve different purposes and audiences. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets like this one rely on trader consensus to discover true probability. Prediction markets typically reflect longer-term, fundamental expectations about outcomes, whereas sportsbooks may adjust rapidly for short-term betting patterns. For a free agency decision, prediction market prices tend to incorporate deeper analysis of team cap space, roster fit, and player preference, offering a complementary view to traditional betting lines.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares for each potential team outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share reflects the market's implied probability that Williams will sign with that team. As new information emerges—such as team interest, contract offers, or player statements—traders adjust their positions, moving prices up or down. The more confident traders are in a particular outcome, the higher that share price climbs. This continuous price discovery mechanism makes the market responsive to breaking news and shifting expectations throughout the free agency window.
This market resolves around Oct 31, 2026, once the NBA free agency period concludes and Williams' signing is official. The outcome will be confirmed once his new team is verifiable from credible public reporting, including league announcements and team rosters. Resolution hinges on which franchise Williams actually joins, not on contract terms, salary, or length of deal. Once the signing is announced and documented, the corresponding outcome resolves to yes, and all other team options resolve to no.
Several catalysts can shift odds significantly. Team roster moves and trades may open or close cap space, affecting which franchises can realistically pursue Williams. Reported interest from specific teams, leaked contract offers, or statements from Williams' agent will trigger sharp price moves. Injuries to other centers around the league could increase demand for his services. Workouts and pre-free-agency meetings between Williams and interested teams often generate media coverage that influences trader sentiment. Late-breaking news about competing free agents signing elsewhere can redirect attention and capital toward this market as the landscape clarifies.
