This market will resolve to "Yes" if the listed participant finishes 2nd in the final result of the 2026 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. Otherwise, it will resolve to "No". In the event of a tie, this market will resolve to the participant officially recognized by Major League Eating as finishing in second place. If multiple participants are officially awarded second place, the market will resolve to the participant whose listed name comes first alphabetically. If at any point it becomes impossible for the listed participant to finish 2nd in the 2026 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, the corresponding market will resolve to "No". If the 2026 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest is cancelled, postponed after July 18, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or there is otherwise no 2nd place participant declared within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source will be official information from Major League Eating. A consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and manage risk, while prediction markets are driven by traders seeking to profit from accurate forecasts. This market may show materially different implied probabilities than traditional sports betting venues, especially as new information emerges or trader conviction shifts. Comparing the two can reveal where the crowd on Polymarket sees value relative to conventional oddsmakers, though both should be viewed as estimates rather than certainties about the eventual outcome.
On Polymarket, traders set the odds by buying and selling shares that represent different outcomes for second place. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share reflects the collective belief about that outcome's probability, with higher prices indicating greater confidence. Traders profit by correctly predicting the result, which incentivizes them to incorporate all available information—past performance, training reports, and event conditions—into their bids. As the contest date approaches and new signals emerge, prices adjust dynamically to reflect updated expectations.
This market resolves around Jul 4, 2026, once the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest concludes and the official results are confirmed. The outcome is determined by verifying which competitor finishes in second place in the men's division, confirmed against credible public reporting of the event. Traders holding shares in the correct outcome receive their payout, while incorrect positions expire worthless. The resolution is straightforward and based on the publicly announced final standings.
Several factors could shift trader sentiment before the contest. Training updates, injury announcements, or withdrawals by top contenders would immediately reshape expectations for second place. Recent competitive results from qualifying events or head-to-head matchups provide concrete performance data that traders incorporate into their forecasts. Media coverage highlighting a particular competitor's form or strategy can also influence perception. As the event date draws closer, any official rule changes or venue details that might affect performance could trigger repricing. Finally, unexpected news about favorites could dramatically alter the odds for secondary finishers.
