Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from sportsbook odds due to varying information sources and incentives. Sportsbooks typically set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to freely express their beliefs about the outcome. If sportsbook odds significantly diverge from those seen here, it could indicate disagreement about the true probability of a particular result. It's important to remember that both represent probabilities, but are derived through different mechanisms and may appeal to different types of bettors or analysts.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment of the market. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds remain responsive to changing conditions and incorporate the latest insights from those trading on the platform. The current price reflects the aggregate sentiment of all participants.
