Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of participants, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish lines based on their own models and to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. These differences can present opportunities for arbitrage, where traders capitalize on price variations between the two types of markets. However, it’s crucial to remember that both represent probabilities, and neither is guaranteed to be correct.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome.
