Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. Discrepancies can arise from differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of how each venue operates. If you observe a significant difference between the probabilities implied by this market and those offered by sportsbooks, it could signal an opportunity for value betting, assuming you have a strong conviction about the true probability of an outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price will adjust, providing a real-time assessment of the expected result. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket and is not influenced by external factors or other prediction venues.
