Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their risk and ensure profitability, while this market represents the collective belief of informed traders. Initially, sportsbook odds may heavily influence the price, but as more information becomes available and traders analyze the matchup, the predictions on Polymarket can diverge. It’s common to see this market adjust more rapidly to new information, such as injury reports or changes in player form, than traditional betting venues.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the prices adjust to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. The market’s efficiency depends on the volume of trading and the information available to participants, leading to a dynamic and evolving price discovery process.
