Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which are set by professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like public betting patterns and risk management, while this market relies on individuals’ independent assessments of the game’s outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, analytical approaches, or simply varying opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of each team. It’s common to see prediction markets move independently of sportsbook lines, especially as new information becomes available or as the event draws closer.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market’s collective probability of that outcome occurring. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect changing sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are driven by supply and demand – if many traders believe a particular score is likely, they will buy shares, driving up the price, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date expectations.
