Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven by traders expressing their beliefs about the outcome. If there's a significant discrepancy, it might indicate that the market believes the sportsbook is mispricing the probability of a particular result. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities and can be influenced by various factors, including public perception and new information.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of the market participants and adjusts in real-time based on new information and changing sentiment regarding the Taylor vs Puleo match.
