Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their risk and ensure profit, while this market relies on the collective insight of traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, they can drive the odds on Polymarket in the opposite direction. This can lead to discrepancies, with prediction markets sometimes offering more accurate probabilities, especially as an event approaches and more information becomes available. It's a fascinating comparison of different forecasting methods.
