Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of participants, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market is driven by individual traders making their own assessments. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially early in the market’s life cycle, as prediction markets can incorporate information and analysis that sportsbooks might not immediately consider. Examining these differences can provide valuable insights into public perception and potential value bets.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event's likelihood. The market's price is determined solely by supply and demand – if more people believe one player will win, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to new information.
