Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven purely by individuals willing to buy or sell their predictions. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in modeling approaches. It’s common to see prediction markets move independently of sportsbook lines, especially as new information becomes available or public sentiment shifts.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing allows the market to rapidly incorporate new information and reflect the evolving expectations of participants. The current price reflects the aggregated assessment of all traders on the platform.
