Frequently asked questions

Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven purely by the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is undervaluing a particular outcome, the odds here may diverge. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before major events, as prediction markets can quickly incorporate new information and adjust probabilities based on participant analysis.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a specific outcome. The price of each share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price fluctuates to reflect the aggregated sentiment. The market’s price is determined by supply and demand, meaning that if many traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price will increase, and vice versa.
