Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often reflect a different kind of wisdom than those found at sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective intelligence of traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. Often, you'll find that prediction markets are more accurate than traditional polls or analyst predictions, as they aggregate a wider range of information and perspectives. However, sportsbook odds can still provide a useful benchmark for comparison, and discrepancies between the two can highlight interesting areas of potential value.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are bought, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a growing expectation that the outcome will occur. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of the outcome, allowing traders to express their views and profit if their predictions are correct. This dynamic pricing system ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment.
