Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an event as determined by traders. It’s common to see differences between the two, especially as new information emerges. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market allows for collective intelligence to influence pricing as the event draws closer. Discrepancies can present opportunities for arbitrage, though transaction costs should be considered.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the market price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. The current price reflects the aggregated assessment of all traders on Polymarket, and is influenced by factors like player form, head-to-head records, and recent performance. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to new information.
