Frequently asked questions

Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set initial lines to balance betting action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant number of traders believe a particular outcome is more likely than implied by sportsbook odds, the price will adjust accordingly. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, analytical approaches, or simply varying levels of confidence in the same information. It’s common to see this market offer odds that diverge from those found at sportsbooks, potentially providing opportunities for value betting.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each possible outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure drives prices down. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the aggregated intelligence of all traders involved, creating a probabilistic forecast for which team will score first.

This market resolves around Sep 20, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will depend on determining which team, if any, scores the first goal in the Modena FC 2018 vs. Empoli FC match. Official match records will be used to verify the outcome. The platform will then distribute payouts to those who correctly predicted the first team to score, based on the final share prices at the time of resolution. It is important to note that the outcome is determined by the actual event result, not by any subjective interpretation.

Several factors could influence the price movement of this market. Any news regarding team lineups, player injuries, or changes in coaching staff could significantly shift trader sentiment. Unexpected weather conditions on match day or even pre-match analysis from sports commentators could also play a role. Major shifts in public opinion, reflected in social media trends or betting patterns at sportsbooks, might also impact trading activity. Ultimately, any information that alters the perceived probability of either team scoring first has the potential to move this market before Sep 20, 2026.
