Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd approach, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, especially when considering information advantages held by market participants. However, sportsbook odds are readily available and provide a useful benchmark. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, biases, or the incentives of those setting the odds. It’s common to see this market and sportsbooks diverge initially, with the prediction market potentially converging towards a more accurate probability as the event approaches and more information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each possible exact score. The price of each share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an exact score is likely, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will rise. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated to reflect the latest information and collective intelligence of the participants.
