Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and incorporate a profit margin, while this market’s prices are driven by traders directly expressing their beliefs. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by betting on both venues. However, it’s important to remember that prediction markets and sportsbooks have different user bases and information sources, leading to potential variations in their assessments of the likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price reflects the collective intelligence of the traders on Polymarket, providing a dynamic and real-time assessment of the match’s potential result. The market’s depth and volume indicate the level of confidence traders have in their predictions.
