Prediction markets and sportsbooks price events differently because they operate under distinct incentive structures. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their book and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets reflect pure trader consensus—what participants genuinely believe will happen. Prediction market odds often incorporate real-time information and can move faster than traditional sportsbooks, especially as game time approaches. Comparing the two can reveal whether public sentiment differs from professional oddsmakers' views.
Key catalysts include injury announcements affecting either roster, lineup changes, weather conditions on game day, and recent team performance trends. Trades or roster moves before the season can reshape expectations. As game time nears, betting activity on external sportsbooks may influence prediction market prices. Breaking news about player availability or team strategy can trigger sharp moves. Monitor sports news feeds and official team announcements for developments that traders will price in immediately.
