Nick Kurtz's performance in the Miami vs Oakland Athletics game on July 3, 2026 will be evaluated based on total bases accumulated through his hits. Total bases are calculated by counting singles as one base, doubles as two bases, triples as three bases, and home runs as four bases.
Nick Kurtz must be in the starting lineup and record at least one plate appearance for the market to settle on actual performance. If he is scratched or not included in the starting lineup, the market resolves to fair market price. If he starts but does not get a plate appearance, or if he enters the game as a pinch hitter after not starting, the market resolves to fair market price and pinch-hit at-bats do not count. Settlement is based on the total bases recorded during his starting plate appearances.
Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and manage risk, while prediction markets like this one are driven by trader belief and financial incentive to forecast accurately. Over time, prediction markets have demonstrated competitive or superior accuracy to traditional sportsbooks on many outcomes. Comparing this market's odds to major sportsbook lines can reveal where the two communities disagree on the likely total bases result.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order-book mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different total bases outcomes. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each outcome reflects the collective confidence of all active traders; as new information emerges or sentiment shifts, bids and asks adjust in real time. Liquidity and trading volume directly influence how tightly prices are quoted, so periods of high activity typically narrow the spread between buy and sell prices.
This market resolves around Jul 4, 2026, once the Miami versus A's game concludes and the result is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome will be determined by the combined total bases recorded in the official box score for both teams. Resolution occurs after the game ends and final statistics are confirmed, at which point the market settles based on whether the actual total bases falls into the predicted range or outcome category specified by the market terms.
Several factors can shift odds in this market before resolution. Lineup announcements, injuries to key players, or changes in starting pitchers can significantly alter expectations for total bases. Weather conditions on game day—wind speed and direction particularly affect ball carry—may influence offensive output. Recent team performance, batting averages, and pitching effectiveness also drive trader positioning. Breaking news about player availability or last-minute roster moves typically triggers sharp price movement as the market reprices based on new information.
