Prediction market odds and sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and protect their margins, while prediction markets like this one aggregate the collective beliefs of traders who have real money at stake on the outcome. Traders in this market may incorporate deeper statistical analysis, team-specific insights, or live game developments that sportsbooks haven't yet fully priced in. Comparing the two can reveal where the market sees value relative to traditional betting lines.
On Polymarket, traders set prices through an automated market maker mechanism, where each outcome's price reflects the ratio of liquidity allocated to it. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The odds you see represent the collective assessment of all active traders; as new money flows into one outcome, its price adjusts automatically. This continuous repricing ensures that the market reflects up-to-date information about team form, injuries, weather, and other factors that could influence the first five innings. Prices remain dynamic until the market resolves after the game concludes.
This market resolves around Jul 5, 2026, once the first five innings of the game are complete and the result is verified against credible public sources. The winning outcome is determined by which team has the higher score after exactly five innings of play. No extra innings or tie-breaking rules apply at this stage; the market simply reflects which team was ahead when the fifth inning ended. Resolution typically occurs within hours of the game's conclusion.
Several factors can shift odds in this market before and during the game. Lineup announcements, bullpen availability, and weather conditions closer to game time often trigger price movement. Early game performance—runs scored, pitcher effectiveness, or defensive plays in the first few innings—will drive rapid repricing as traders react to live action. Injury reports or late scratches can also swing sentiment. Trading volume and new money entering the market may amplify these moves, so watch for catalysts that affect either team's early-game prospects.
