Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds and traditional sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and risk models. Sportsbooks set lines to balance liability and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets like this one are driven by trader consensus seeking to maximize accuracy. Prediction markets typically incorporate longer-term information and can adjust more fluidly as new data arrives. For a specific event like Messi's penalty performance, comparing this market's implied probability to major sportsbook lines reveals whether professional oddsmakers and retail traders are pricing the outcome similarly or if meaningful gaps exist.

On Limitless, this market is priced through a continuous order-book model where traders buy and sell shares representing "Yes" (2+ penalties) and "No" (fewer than 2) outcomes. On Limitless, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share reflects the collective belief of active traders; as more capital flows into one side, the price adjusts upward or downward. Limitless displays the current bid-ask spread and allows traders to execute market or limit orders in real time, ensuring prices remain competitive and responsive to breaking news about Messi's form, injury status, or World Cup squad composition.

This market resolves around Jul 20, 2026, after the 2026 World Cup concludes. The outcome is determined by the total number of penalties Messi converts during the tournament; if he scores 2 or more, the "Yes" outcome wins; otherwise, "No" prevails. Resolution is verified against credible public sources including official FIFA records, match reports, and sports news archives. Once the final is played and all results are confirmed, the market settles and traders receive payouts based on their positions.

Several catalysts can shift odds in this market before Jul 20, 2026. Messi's performance in World Cup qualifying matches—particularly his penalty-taking opportunities and conversion rate—will influence trader positioning. Injury updates, squad announcements, and his club form leading into the tournament carry weight. Changes in Argentina's penalty-kick strategy or goalkeeper selection may also matter. Additionally, broader tournament narratives, such as Argentina's advancement through knockout rounds or Messi's overall fitness and playing time, can reshape expectations about his penalty opportunities. Real-time news and expert commentary will drive continuous repricing.
