The market resolves on Jul 20, 2026, after the 2026 FIFA World Cup concludes. Resolution depends on whether Messi and Ronaldo both take the field during a match where their respective teams face each other. The outcome is determined by official World Cup records and match participation data. Factors that influence resolution include team qualification, player fitness and availability, coaching decisions, and tournament bracket alignment. Traders should monitor both players' health, their teams' World Cup performance, and any announcements regarding participation or retirement before the deadline.

Several catalysts could shift the market price significantly. Injury announcements or retirement statements from either player would dramatically alter odds. Confirmation of team qualification or elimination from World Cup qualifying rounds would change the probability of a matchup occurring. Coaching changes, tactical shifts, or squad rotation patterns could affect playing time expectations. Age-related fitness concerns or performance declines during the 2025–26 season may influence trader confidence. Media reports on player availability, contract negotiations, or international retirement timelines could trigger sharp repricing. Additionally, the World Cup draw and bracket alignment—once announced—will clarify whether the teams are even positioned to meet.
