Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying levels of market efficiency. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks, potentially offering value for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its shares will climb. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date collective forecast.
