Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the aggregate wisdom of crowd predictions. If prediction market participants strongly disagree with sportsbook lines, you may see significant differences in the implied probabilities. It’s common to observe that prediction markets, particularly closer to the event, can be more accurate forecasters than traditional odds, as they benefit from a diverse range of informed opinions and continuous updating based on new information.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the prices adjust to reflect the collective forecast. The market’s efficiency depends on the volume of trading and the information available to participants, leading to a dynamic and responsive price discovery process for the Melashenko vs. Khandetskyi match.
