Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and risk assessment, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant discrepancy exists between prediction market probabilities and sportsbook odds, it could indicate that the crowd believes the sportsbook has mispriced the event. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities and are subject to change as new information becomes available. Analyzing both can provide a more comprehensive view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is driven entirely by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of its participants.
