Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market's pricing is driven purely by traders willing to buy or sell based on their own analysis. If a significant discrepancy exists between the two, opportunities for arbitrage may arise. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome, and neither is guaranteed to be perfectly accurate. Analysts often use both to inform their predictions.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders can buy 'yes' shares if they believe Manchester United or Manchester City will score first in the second half, or 'no' shares if they believe neither team will. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively representing the market's collective probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movement reflects how traders update their beliefs as new information emerges, such as team news or injury reports, leading up to the event.

This market resolves around Sep 13, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the outcome will be determined by which team – Manchester United or Manchester City – scores the first goal in the second half of the match. In the event of no goals being scored in the second half, the market will resolve in favor of the 'no' outcome. The official match records will be used to verify the result.

Several factors could significantly impact the pricing of this market. Any news regarding key player injuries or suspensions for either Manchester United or Manchester City would likely cause a shift in the odds. Tactical announcements from either manager, such as confirmed starting lineups or changes in formation, could also influence trader sentiment. Even in-game events during the first half, like a red card or an early goal, could lead to substantial price movements as traders react to the evolving dynamics of the Manchester Derby.
