Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market is driven by individual predictions and trading activity. It's common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before a significant amount of volume accumulates. Analyzing these differences can be useful for identifying potentially undervalued or overvalued outcomes, but remember this market is subject to its own dynamics.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a real-time probability assessment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome will occur, the higher the share price will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the aggregated predictions of all participants in the market.
