Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to discrepancies, with prediction markets sometimes offering more favorable odds, especially when there's significant public disagreement with the sportsbook’s initial assessment. It’s common to see differences in implied probabilities, as prediction markets aggregate diverse opinions and information, potentially identifying mispriced outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in a particular outcome of the Maliuk vs. Lyman match. As more shares are purchased for a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date information and sentiment.
