Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. This is because prediction markets aggregate the wisdom of the crowd, allowing traders to weigh various factors and information sources. While sportsbooks typically set odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, this market reflects the collective beliefs of individuals with skin in the game. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions on player form, potential injuries, or even less quantifiable factors impacting the match's outcome. It’s valuable to compare both to gain a more comprehensive understanding.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the changing consensus. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. For example, a share priced at 60 means there's a 60% implied probability of that outcome being correct. The platform facilitates this price discovery process, allowing for dynamic adjustments based on trader activity and new information.
