Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven purely by traders’ willingness to buy or sell, representing their collective belief about the outcome. If prediction market odds significantly diverge from sportsbook odds, it could indicate that the market believes the sportsbook has mispriced the event, or that new information hasn’t yet been fully incorporated into sportsbook lines. It's a useful comparison for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific player, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a higher implied probability of that player winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movement is driven by supply and demand, with traders constantly adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds closely reflect the collective intelligence of the participants.
