Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective intelligence of traders on Polymarket, aims to reflect the true probability of an outcome. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market's odds evolve in real-time based on actual trading activity. Therefore, discrepancies can arise, potentially offering value to informed traders who identify mispricings relative to their own assessments of the match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the aggregated wisdom of the crowd. The current implied probability of a specific outcome is reflected in the share price, allowing traders to assess the market’s overall sentiment.
